In Norse mythology, it’s common knowledge that when someone dies in battle, they end up in Valhalla with Odin ruling over them, right? Wrong! Half those people actually end up in Fólkvangr, the domain of Freya, goddess of love, beauty, fertility, sex, and all those fantastic things. Sure, Valhalla sounds nice, but spending eternity in Freya’s wooded meadow sounds like a wonderful time. Plus, Freya is the goddess of a powerful type of magic that allows her to both predict and possibly shape the future. How amazing would that be to witness? Sure, you can go to Valhalla and get drunk with the other Norsemen; we’ll be over here frolicking through an eternal meadow and braiding Freya’s perfect locks while she literally whispers the future into our ears. That’s truly heaven.
