Scent Notes: Mugwort tea, herbal mint, drying lavender bouquets, jasmine petals
It’s 5am and you’re awake, happily sipping on mint and mugwort tea. You’re sitting in a rocking chair on your porch, wrapped in the softest blanket you own, enjoying the solitude and quiet. Crickets chirp. You can hear the soft scuttling of small animals in the woods that surround your house. It’s peaceful, just you being cozy and appreciating this time between night and day. You’re rocking slowly, sipping your tea, not doing much of anything, but you can hear the natural world around you as it continues on. Pots of jasmine line the railing of your porch; above them, bouquets of lavender are drying out. Everything is perfect. You’ve always been a bit of a loner. It’s not that you don’t like people or aren’t friendly and fun, you just prefer the quiet comfort of your own mind and your own space. Sure, you can hold your own singing karaoke at the local dive bar, but you’d rather spend your free time alone where you’re most comfortable: in your own cozy house in the woods on the edge of town, enjoying your own company.Big institutions and large gatherings of people have never been your cup of tea. You’d even go so far as to say that most of the important things you’ve learned, you’ve taught yourself. Take gardening for example. You weren’t a natural gardener, but through perseverance and sheer determination, you developed two green thumbs all on your own. People in town whisper about you being a hedge witch, which confused you at first. Was it the herbs and selling them at markets and in your little online store? Was it your reclusive nature and lack of consistent socializing in town? Could it be because you are self-taught in most things, including your successful marketing business? Well, why not all of the above? Humans contain multitudes, and most people do not fit neatly into one box or another. We all contain contradictions and inhabit multiple truths; maybe you’re just a little more conscious and comfortable with your own plurality. What’s so wrong with that? The answer, of course, is absolutely nothing. Keep straddling those hedges, and don’t let anyone try to fence you in.
