Contrary to what the name would have you believe, an alembic is not a fancy style of beer, although it is related to alcoholic beverages. An alembic is an alchemical still, used specifically for distilling, that consists of two vessels connected by a tube. Using the powers of heat and condensation, it distills liquids easily in a very fun, small-scale fashion. Alembics are also an ancient version of the pot still, which is what is used in modern times to make distilled beverages like vodka, gin, or whiskey. Of course, it doesn’t have to be used to make alcohol, but it’s way cooler if you do.
Scent Notes: Sweet pumpkin souffle dotted with marshmallows and drizzled with buttery maple syrup. Tuberose wafts through the open front door.
Sweet as an opening, but there is a “Chunky” pumpkin smell that is putting me off - more like raw pumpkin than pumpkin spice, or maybe it’s a hint of savory from the butter. Dries down to a slightly green rose scent that I do enjoy along with the pumpkin.
I received Alembic as a sample with my order, and I am in love. PLEASE bring this one out of retirement!!! I was astounded that this was one of my favorites, because I don't like to smell sweet or floral. Alembic is both, and somehow neither. Must be alchemy ;)
In the bottle, it is a very sweet marshmallow. But, once it's on my skin I get the savory notes of pumpkin and butter, a hint of sweet marshmallow, and the tuberose on the back end of each sniff. The tuberose lends an herbaceous, green smell. The description is spot on; it smells just like baking a fall treat with the windows open to your garden!
I waited a whole year for this line to come back from retirement and it was worth the wait! This is my absolute favorite scent blend and it's everything I hoped it would be!
I did actually buy a large oil of this too..which comes in a dropper style rather than a spray. It's one of the ones that needs to sit for a while as it's not sweet at all when it arrives unlike some of the other honey scents.
