This was Day 8 in our Yule Advent Calendar.
We don't know why they howl. But they howl. Long and loud. Hearts pointed to the sky. You can hear the sorrow in their howl, the plea, the desperate clinging to life. They sing for their ancestors and their pups to be. They sing for the ones they've lost and the ones they still have with them. It's a long cold night, and they are hungry. Perhaps they sing to feel less alone. Maybe the nights feel warmer when they can hear their neighbors howling back at them. In any case, the sound is bone chilling and rattles the soul. It weaves a great tale, and unravels as the wind carries it across the vast cold landscape.
